Hugh and Ben are professional athletes who are also trained as primary educators. Strive Sports Academy provides the opportunity to develop and improve fundamental skills in football across all ages. The clinics provide an environment where individuals will enjoy a wide range of activities and be challenged to be the best version of themselves.

Strive Sports is a community based program that fosters self growth where young men and women can become the best version of themselves​.

By creating a positive and inclusive environment, we aim to teach young men and women football skills, as well as, enabling them to explore their own unique personalities.

Hugh Beasley
Founder & Lead Coach

Hugh is a former professional AFL player for the Brisbane Lions. He played his first game in the 2015 season and played until the conclusion of 2016. Following his time in the AFL, he returned to Melbourne to play for the Richmond VFL. He was announced Vice-Captain in 2017, holding the role for over 3 seasons which included winning a VFL Premiership in 2017 and titled Team of the Year. In 2020 Hugh joined the Box Hill Hawks, he was announced captain of the club in 2022 and landed the role again in 2023. 

Hugh currently balances his captaincy role at Box Hill Hawks with being Year 3 Team Leader at Templestowe Heights Primary School. Hugh’s passion for becoming a better educator has led him to pursue his Masters in Educational Leadership at Monash University. Hugh’s passion for developing children holistically has allowed him to work in several different educational settings, dealing with many unique students and situations.

BEN CAVARRA
Founder & Lead Coach

Ben is a former professional AFL player for the Western Bulldogs. Ben came through the Eastern Ranges in the NAB League. Ben won the clubs best and fairest in 2012 and 13' as well as the Morrish Medal in 2013. Ben captained the side in 2013 to a premiership. Ben then joined the Frankston Dolphins VFL for 3 years where he won two best and fairest awards before crossing to Williamstown. Ben spent 2 years at Williamstown before being drafted as a mature age player to the Western Bulldogs. Totalling 4 AFL games during his time at the Western Bulldogs, Ben returned to the VFL joining Box Hill Hawks for the 2022 season where he earnt his 5th VFL Team of the Year selection.

Ben completed a Bachelor of Primary Education at Deakin University in 2018. He now works at St. Peter’s Primary School where he is the PE teacher and Sports Co-ordinator. In this role, Ben teaches all sports on a daily basis for years Foundation through to Grade 6. Ben organises major school sporting events such as house sports, swimming, athletics and cross-country for his school. In addition, he liaises with schools in the local area to conduct inter school sport events such as football, soccer, cricket and basketball which provides many sporting opportunities for the students.
